Star Status for the Humble Dumpling

Every cuisine includes dumplings; there’s something homey and comforting about them: Jewish matzo balls. Italian gnocchi. Japanese mochi. Dumplings come in different forms, with different fillings, cooked in many different ways. Some are savory; some are sweet.

In Chinese cuisine, regional specialties like Beijing’s famous potstickers, Cantonese Har Gau and classic wontons have raised the humble dumpling to star status.

To sample a variety of tasty Chinese dumplings at one sitting, visit a Cantonese Dim Sum Restaurant. There you will find traditional offerings alongside more exotic species, like flower petal dumplings, cylindrical char siu bao dumplings, taro root dumplings, crab puffs or meat-filled coins.

By following my recipes, you could even fashion a three-course dumpling meal right at home!
